Sarah is learning to handle her CPAP.  See how it is in her nose?

Tiny toes grabbing Mommy's fingers.

Sarah did really, really well today!  She came off the ventilator last night and went onto the Nasal CPAP (this blows constant air into her nose to keep her airway open).  She was still on the CPAP tonight while we were there too.  That is already the longest she's been able to stay off the ventilator.  She is a lot more touchy.  She doesn't like people to talk near her or touch her at all right now.  The nurse put up some dividers around her bed to block out some of the noise and she was enjoying that.  The nurse said she thinks Sarah may be able to stay off the vent for a quite a while, if not forever.  She was breathing on her own all day with no apnea spells.

They also raised her feedings today to 17ccs every three hours.  They are feeding her by gravity now, which means she gets all the milk in a very short amount of time.  You can see how they hang it in the first picture above.  They are also trying to get her to suck on a pacifier while she gets her milk.  This will teach her to associate sucking with becoming full so she will be able to get the milk herself soon.

We still have a long road ahead of us, but everything that is happening is very encouraging right now!

Thank you all again for your continued prayers.  We still need them!
