From Beth: I think the NICU is becoming more exhausting by the day.  Only one other baby in the NICU has been there longer than Sarah Beth, but only by one week.  They have always been in beds near each other too.  I think I have met almost every nurse in the NICU.  They know me when I get there and don't even ask my name anymore.  Usually, they are just waiting on me and let me right in.  I find myself spending half my time praying something different would happen and the other half praying it won't.  This waiting thing is no fun.  We have been in the NICU for 50 days.  One of the nurses told Sarah Beth that we may  have to name her "house" after her since she had been there so long (the area's the babies are in are called "houses").

Sarah Beth is doing well though.  She is still having major reflux issues.  The nurse was going to try feeding her over the pump again.  That means, instead of gravity feedings, a pump would slowly give her the milk over a period of an hour or so.  She thought that may help her reflux which would in turn help her breathing.  It is a step back on her feedings which is disappointing, but if it helps her step forward on her oxygen, perhaps it would be worth it.

They have raised her feedings to 27ccs every three hours.  She is still digesting all she is given.  Her oxygen saturation (sats) stay high if she is on her belly.  The amount of oxygen she is given fluctuates all the time.  I came in today and she was on .3L (300ccs), but we had to turn her up to 700ccs during her feeding.  So you see, it changes so quickly.  Room air would be around 250ccs.

They have lowered her steroid dose now and will only give it every other day.  They think she has gotten as much help from it as she can get.  They also gave her blood on Monday.  She was very puffy on Monday night from the blood (looked like a fat baby), so the nurse asked the doctor for some lasix to help her get the fluid off.  Today she looked much more normal.

Thank you all again for your continued prayers.  We still need them!
