Short update from Joe: I just wanted to let everyone know Sarah Beth came home from the hospital around lunchtime Saturday, June 17. She made it home safely with no problems. We are now in the process of getting her used to the house, dogs, and all the changes that come along with that. We are very glad she is here with us and we can hold her any time she needs it. Today has been a busy day to say the least. We do have pictures of the blessed coming home event, but we need time to concentrate on Sarah and hope to have the pictures up by the end of the weekend. In the meantime, check out her going home picture at Huntsville Hospital's Baby Face site.

Two of our favorite nurses. :) We had so many, but only got pictures of these two. The one on the right was our primary nurse. We're going to miss them!
From Beth: We are still in the hospital right now. It is early on Saturday morning. They are discharging us today but we have to wait on the doctors to make rounds and for her to have her picture made. It was a GREAT night! Sarah Beth let me sleep for almost 4 hours one time. She isn't much of a crier either. She will cry out once or twice but that's it. We'll see if she gets more vocal as time goes on, but right now I just take care of whatever she needs after that first cry and she is a happy baby again.
It is a surreal time right now. The oxygen concentrator is loud. It sounds very much like a ventilator. And it is big so it will take up quite a bit of room in our nursery. Hopefully we won't have to have it long. We also have three big and one small oxygen tank to take with us when we go to the doctor and such. The monitor she is on is SO loud. We definitely won't sleep through it. It sounds a whole lot like a smoke detector going off. Being here in the rooming-in room is nice. I know the nurses and doctors are only a few steps away. When we get home, I think I will be more worried and watchful, but in reality, Sarah Beth has had very few episodes in a number of weeks.
I don't ever want to be back in the NICU in this capacity, but I sure have enjoyed the people here. I think I'll come back to visit as much as we can. At least we'll call and update everyone on Sarah Beth's progress. We'll be home this afternoon, but we're still really limiting visitors. At least for the first few days Joe and I need some time to get used to being "full-time" parents. She's still very susceptible to infection so we'll be really strict about hand washing and minimal touching for a while too. The last thing we need is a lung infection like RSV or even a common cough. Hopefully with it being the summer we should not have much of a problem with that though.
So we are still oxygen and still need prayers for all of that. Pray for Joe and I as we get used to being full-time parents of this beautiful baby girl. Pray for her to be able to quickly wean off her oxygen and diuretics. And, though it seems silly, pray for our dogs to accept this new addition to the family. :)
Thank you all again for your continued
prayers. We still need them!
